Paris: A penalty for women employment
11 women and only 5 men: in 2018, the City of Paris appointed a too large a percentage of women to managerial positions. Therefore it was pinned down by the Ministry of the Civil Service. This latter imposed a penalty of 90,000 euros.
Actually this fine was described as “absurd, unfair, irresponsible and dangerous” by the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, this Tuesday, December 15 in City Council.
“The beautiful thing about bureaucracy is that it has absolutely no knowledge of discernment and therefore dares everything.
” She announced that she wanted to go in person to the Ministry of the Civil Service” with the assistants, the directors, the women of the general secretary of the City” to deliver the check to Minister Amélie de Montchalin.
“We must promote women with determination because the backwardness in France is still very great, we must therefore accelerate the tempo and appoint more women than men”, she assumed.
So as indicated by Le Monde journal. The City of Paris should no longer be penalized in the future. Because a law passed in 2019 exempts employers who appoint too many men or women from sanction, if this does not lead to a general imbalance . However, the City has only 47% of female senior executives. But the law is not retroactive, Paris will have to pay for its “violation” of 2018.
